shopping, decorating, and drinking… all the name of Christmas fun

Today’s an action packed day of Christmas! Can’t wait. I’m ecstatic. Don’t let the tone of my writing fool you. Seriously. I. can’t.wait.

Hanging Christmas lights is not my forte. I prefer to reap the rewards of other people’s hard work, driving around and looking at their lights. I don’t particularly enjoy my husband’s Drill-Sargent-like commands as we work; he constantly insists that more is better while I feel that simple is better. He gets so excited that he has hissy fits if I don’t do what he requests. It’s rather childish, but I enjoy making him so frustrated he’s about to throw something at me as he’s standing on the roof yelling. What an idiot.
If he had his way this house would be the Griswald’s of Christmas Vacation. So far it’s not so bad. Tolerable, but only because I think he didn’t want to spend anymore money. Someday he will have his house so friggin’ bright that Santa’s not going to be able to pass by this puppy without searing the retinas of his eyes.

I went shopping really early this morning. The mall wasn’t even open yet when I got there. That’s the best time to be there on the last weekends before Christmas I tell ya. If you can’t be there during the weekday, go Saturday morning just as they’re opening up. I was in and out in a matter of an hour and had what I needed for the Christmas party tonight as well as Mike’s birthday gift. I didn’t even have to be rude or inconsiderate to get everything done and get out in such a short amount of time. I was actually (dare I say it) pleasant!

The Christmas party tonight is for Mike’s work. Surprisingly for a bunch of construction workers the past couple years have been quite dull. No one does or says anything remotely embarrassing, no fights and no drunken fools. I suppose it’s because they are in the presence of the “big bosses” but a little action would make it a little bit more worth looking forward to. I hope it’s not as dull this year as the previous one. If I didn’t have to be the designated driver I could actually be able to enjoy it.
