While avoiding evening chores (seriously, look at this place. I think that toy store came over and spewed forth its vileness again. I just can’t keep up with it all. It gets shoved in the corner on a nightly basis.)
What? Oh! Ya! I stumbled upon Lorelle. So stumble might not be the right word since I have been there many times before.. ANYhoo, there was an interesting article that’s been shared from different sources, but ultimately goes back here, to its home at the TimesDaily - New York, Los Angeles, Genoa City - oh wait! this is their paper. Fuck me sideways! There’s really a Genoa City in WI!? Here I’ve been watching the show for 20 some-odd years and thought that it was completely fake! I’m in a state of shock right now!
What was I talking about? Ah, yes. The TimesDaily; could be from Buckfucknowhere, for all I know but! they have a very interesting article about dead blogs. I hadn’t really thought of it as a news worthy topic before, but apparently so. (Still can’t believe it’s a real damn city, that Genoa.)
The blog rush has slowed down from 175,000 new blogs posted per day in July 2006 to 120,000 new blogs per day as of March, according to Technorati, a blog tracking company.
Blogs with staying power, Endgaget’s techno-blog and Boing Boing’s curios-blog, stick around because they have a direct purpose, Carroll says. That, plus paid staff and advertising dollars.Merriam-Webster named “blog” the top word for 2004, and the word entered the printed dictionary in 2005.
This month will mark a potential peak in the blogging phenomenon, according to research from Gartner, Inc., an information technology analyst firm.
In December 2006, Gartner estimated that based on the “average lifespan of a blogger” and the growth rates of blogs, the number of bloggers would peak at around 100 million “at some point in the first half of 2007,” according to a press release.
After June, it’s all downhill: data byte by data byte. Already, more than 200 million people call themselves ex-bloggers.
200 million ex-bloggers!? Wow. That’s a staggering statistic, yet not surprising. I can see how finding content, sticking with it, finding time and gaining popularity can be taxing on someone who wishes to achieve Ultimate Blog Fame. *ahem* *cough, cough* Sorry, something stuck in my throat. *hack, hack* Okay so, I may have (slightly) come to terms with the fact that I may never become a Dooce but, it still stings a little. A girl can dream, can’t she?
Finding content is really not that easy; you have to be creative, willing to share and able to put together a sentence… and if you take some time to check out my archives you can see that practice cannot make you better.
For me. I have to blog when I see fit. I can’t sit on a post and polish it and molest it to pieces. Sometimes I refer to myself as a premature poster (though, I think it’s a first on this site). Really. I don’t always give tons of thought to what I am writing and then read it an hour later and wonder if anyone would notice should it go missing.
Wanna know how many blog sites I have on the go? Seven. *gag* ‘cuse me, just barfed a little. I don’t use them all regularly though, a couple most are test sites for designs. I guess they could be considered dead.
That’s enough self humiliation for today.
Please take a moment to contemplate my questions, then answer them dammit!
How many you got? Killed any, dead? How did you get into blogging? Why do you do it? Where do you get your content (cuz I need more ideas)? Ever try and convince someone you know to start a blog?
Answer them here or at your site (with a link back for this trashy whore), I wanna know that I’m not the only loser nutjob person with seven blogs.
*shakes head* Can’t believe there’s a REAL Genoa City. That’s some trippy shit.

Have two, killed one–make that killed two if you count the Myspace blog.
I got into blogging because of YOU. Seriously, because of you and Tina; well, Tina got me into the Myspace blog thing–you got me into Blogger.
I blog because it is a fun way to be heard and work out ideas and get feedback–not like anyone I know IRL listens to me LOL Seriously!
Where do I find content? From any aspect of my life–my thoughts, my reading, my actions or lack of, tv shows, other people, other blogs…just about everywhere.
And yes, I have tried to convince a few people to blog and they just don’t have the patience to sit at a computer longer than checking their email or booking flights!

My original was at (URL removed) It’s not really a major blogging provider and didn’t really have everything I wanted feature-wise, so I finally switched to the current(URL removed) But I left my old stuff there because there was no way to bring them with me to typepad. I guess you’d call tat one dead.
I also have 2 dead blogs that I’ve never used. I started one on wordpress to see if I liked it before signing up for typepad. The last I have is a blogger one, but that is only because I visit some blogs that don’t allow anonymous comments, and you have to have a blogger profile for that.
I blog about whatever happens to be on my mind when I feel like writing (Yesterday, that was literally true). Sometimes I’ll think of something I think is funny and try to remember it later to write about. I very rarely (never) sit down and put a lot of effort into writing my posts. They just spew forth. It means I usually have a lot of typos and don’t make much sense, but I try to write like I’m having a conversation.
Mostly I started to blog to keep in touch with family. That has changed a little. Now, I just think it’s fun to interact with people in general. I love getting comments.
I did convince 3 people to start a blog, but it was kinda by accident. One is friend of mine and just copied off me. She only writes to communicate with family in another state. Another friend just babbles on, and doesn’t take it very seriously (but reads mine and this is why I am not making a post of it and writing a very long comment here instead). My uncle started one, but I don’t really know what he expected from it, because he got disappointed and took it down. I guess I’m not a very good recruiter.
For some reason, comments with more then one URL are showing up as spam and are not being shown. I removed them so that the comment would be visible

So less bloggers means less competition for readership right? And the downside to this is………?

I was going to say two … but then I remembered that I have four ‘test sites’ also, for designs.
But those don’t count!!! *sob*
Content? Pfffftttt … I’m just an idiot who spewls out whatever pops into my head. It’s a sickness.

I just got started blogging (my middle name has always been day-late-dollar-short). I have just one site that has four wee posts. But the spring in my step from this outlet is off the hizzle.
I got started thanks to Lisa Kogan - I was wondering why the hell I hadn’t seen her in my O magazine lately so I googled. Her name came up in a blog. One blog led to another led to an entire night of my kids watching TV while I delved deep into the archives of blogdom. Don’t judge me.
What I plan to write about? Everything. Lots in the hopper. I plan to unleash all my shit about being an autism mom soon. Thanks for commenting on my post venting my raging insecurity.
Also, about the toys - I see a basket tucked back in the corner. I have two sons and at least six big baskets for toy (tossing) storage scattered throughout the house.

It’s simply addictive - I think we all need therapy.
Cheers
