Dearest Malie;
I am anti-mini van. I hate mini vans.
Yes, their economical and wonderfully spacious and can handle so much cargo and pack those ankle bitters in, but they’re just not for me. I cringe at the thought of considering a mini van an upgrade.
Growing up, that’s all my mom drove. Well, aside from the big brown beast which was a 70’s Buick Regal; we had a Chrysler sometimes or other, and then a GMC Safari; the one I learned to drive in. The one I loathed with every fiber of my being. Sure. Safe, yadda, yadda, yadda. I hated it.
I can’t even really touch on what part of a mini van I detest so very much, I just do. Because. I said so.
I think driving around town in a big ol’ mini van in my teens really scared me, since then, I’ve vowed that I will never have one.
So, when Carter came along, our little Saturn just wasn’t enough, and our Jeep was on the outs. We sold that poor Jeep (RIP Jeepy - creative eh?) and got our you, our dear Malibu Maxx. Mike had no argument, as he is just as adamant we will not own a van, and there was no question we needed a station wagon. Thought about the Volkswagen, which quickly was passed up when the salesman was a complete dick; test drove some other styles, but quickly realized that what we were looking for was pretty well out of our price range.
Until, you came along. You answered our prayers (if your prayers are like “Dammit, we need a new fucking car! Now!”) when you were waiting ever so patiently in the showroom for our arrival; first look I knew you would be mine.
I can’t say enough about you. I totally heart you. I am head over heels in heart with you! Love!

[It's a hatch back Malibu with room to spare. The back seat can move back and forth to accommodate taller passengers so they need not have their knees to to their chin. Bonus! Full loaded, including DVD player in the back. Excellent sound system - which gets plenty of use when I am alone belting out the lyrics to every Pearl Jam song I know. Loud enough to tune me out. And! Tinted windows and wicked chrome rims. Which I polish for Mike and he lurvs!]
You’re the complete package, my beautiful Malibu. Thank you for being my car even when I drive you like a maniac through Toronto’s rush hour traffic and make you speed up and down Hwy. 400… you never fail me. You make me look like a cool mom, not the computer geeky mom I really am! Which is totally awesome!
Love,
The Bat Outta Hell Crazy Driver

I, too, hate minivans and can’t quite name my reasons. A while back, my husband tried to convince me that we should get one when my car dies. He refused to accept any of my arguments against one, until I turned to him and said, “Fine, then. YOU can drive it to work every day.”
I haven’t heard a peep of pro-minivan sentiment out of him since!
Good luck winning one of those cool bags!
Hahaha, that would get my husband too!

LOL Sam! Hey, we all have our motives! Very cool car.
I, sadly, am one of those mini-van lovers. Never in my life thought I’d like one either….used to think the whole “soccor mom” stereotype and way too big. But they are growing on me as I’m debating on growing my family. My favorite is the Odyessy….and gosh darn it, if it wasn’t so darn expensive I would have gotten one already.
Then all I would need to do is enroll Ryan in soccor and then I’d be a bonafied soccor mom!! LOL
Anyway….I do love your car. Very stylish.
*IF* I ever got a minivan it would have to be the Odessy. I think that’s the only decent looking one, even for a van.
I think I barfed a little in my mouth admitting that! LOL

I am totally with you! I will never ever own a mini van. I hate everything about them. So we recently bought a Chevy Trailblazer that I am totally in love with!
See, I would so go SUV before van. HECK, I’d drive A HUGE Yukon or something first!

Congrats on the new car! BEAUTY!
I will never own a minivan either. i just…can’t. And, I only plan on having two kiddies, so no need.
When I was a kid, my mom had a minivan, and she had SO MUCH trouble with it. I remember her calling up the car company and saying, “if you don’t deal with my minivan, I’m going to put a huge sign on it saying ‘M—- is a lemon’”! And, she hung up on them. SO hilarious. I can’t remember the name of the company. I think it began with an M, though….
Well, it’s not all that new, we’ve had it for 2 years this November… but still love it as much as I did the day we bought it!

Hold my hand. Breathe deeply. Embrace your inner mini van. Don’t fight it, baby. Loooove the mini van in you.
Heh.
I will hold your hand. Yes….And then drag you kicking and screaming into my car and make you anti minivan. You will love the Malibu and forever turn your back on your beloved minivan.
*deep breath

You’re right- that’s one sassy car. I’ve always hated mini vans too, but now I’m actually considering turning in my BMW 330i for one. Scary.
Very scary. You can’t! *pout*
Trade in a beamer for a mini van. Dude, I think you’ve officially LOST your marbles!! LOL

Alexis considered buying a minivan in 2000. Thank god I talked her out of it:)

That’s my girl!!! No need to embrace the minivan.
I say DOWN with the minivan! LOL

Ummm … will I still be your friend if I say we were looking at Mini Vans on the weekend????
I agree - I’m anti-mini-van. I’m not even 30!!!!
But … I have a wannabe contractor husband and I want to be higher off the ground. It’s a definite maybe for us.
I can’t believe I admitted that.
I *suppose* we can be friends, even if you’re looking to buy a mini-van. And no. You can’t use your wannabe contractor husband for an excuse. I know you really want it.

I am a mini van owner. I admit it. But, really, what else COULD I drive? A bus?
That isn’t me. I have 5 kids, there is like NO OTHER vehicle that could hold all of us.
I am stuck, but I have become use to my “stuckness”.
BUT, I do have to say I love my new one. It is a Mercury Monterey and other than people want to try to hit me in it *see my most recent posts* it is wonderful. I have the push button key ring that opens the back doors. Yes, I admit it, I at 34 years old, am a mini van driver…..
