I’ve been sitting on a couple gift cards to Amazon that I received over Christmas from some very generous ladies (so ashamed that I’ve waited so long, but in my defense, reading was far from my mind for the past few months.
I finally took some time and perused the great stuff that Amazon.com has but found that I wasn’t able to order because I’m in Canada (like a Moby Wrap, I’m CRUSHED that I couldn’t get that. The moss colour is FAB! I’m so disappointed!) - all I’m allowed to get is books and electronics.
So, this is where you come in my dear bloggy friends: I am in need of suggestions. What books do you think I should consider for reading while I’m on my Maternity Leave?
I am a lover of all genres - I really can’t pick just one.
At the moment I’m reading My Sister’s Keeper and I can’t put it down!
Now is your chance! You suggest, I’ll buy a couple with these gift cards and the rest I’ll be borrowing from the library throughout my time off. M’Kay?!
There’s this dooce person who has a book coming out soon and her book is out tomorrow! They’re on my list too since, well I’m a snoopy blog stalker and couldn’t pass them up.

How appropriate that you’re talking about books and I’m about to tell you all about my new book club and how I’d love for you to join…
http://www.thefloatingbookclub.blogspot.com. Spread the word!
(also, what are the chances we can get my new design up before you pop? I facebooked you about it around a month ago but never received a reply… everything okay on your end?

You MUST read:
The Birth House by Ami McKay
The Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards (I started reading this early last year, but due to certain “circumstances” I couldn’t continue…however, from others that I’ve spoken to, they really enjoyed it…it’s intense)
I have also just finished The Glass House, which was pretty good and am currently reading A day in the Fog (so far, so good)

sizzle: Sweet! I’ve heard of a couple of those - Eat, Pray, Love mostly - it’s everywhere!!
I’ll definitely add these to my list!
Jen: You’re going to have to lend me part of your collection when I see you next!

Okay, I’m going to recomend a few from my favorite author. I have not read a book by her (and I’ve read all but three) that I didn’t love, not just like, LOVE, but this book is my all time favorite
Love In The Present Tense By Cathrine Ryan Hyde
I have read this book at least 4 times. It’s a keeper.
Electric God
This is a great one too
Like I said anything you find by her you wont go wrong with. She writes about difficult topics, but she writes real, and they may not have the fairly tale ending that some sicking books have, but they are believable.

I recently read “Jane Eyre” (you know the classic by Charlotte Bronte) and it was FANTASTIC, like the greatest love story my mommy brain can remember. I couldn’t put it down!

The Time Traveler’s Wife was awesome. Fabulous book.
So was Middlesex.
Have you read any Wally Lamb? Both of his novels are excellent.
My absolute favourite book ever is Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald, which I have here and would lend to you, but I’ve read it so many times there are literally portions of it that have fallen out. I do have her other book, The Way The Crow Flies, which was also very good (but not as good as Fall, in my opinion), and I can bring it for you on the 12th if you’d like.

Sam,
If you want, I’ll be happy to order the wrap for you and you can just send me the gift cards after you get the wrap. I’m in the US so it’s not biggie for me.
Let me know..

My sisters keeper was the book I still talk about for the book meme. Consider yourself warned about the ending! I’ll go through my library and email you some good titles.

I’m also on the Eat, Love Pray bandwagon and the Time Travellers Wife. Both really excellent books.
My Sister’s Keeper is the best of the Jodi Piccolt books. The other ones of hers I would rate at the top are Keeping the Faith, 19 minutes, Mercy.
Good Luck and enjoying reading.

Ah, yes…books. I need to write a blog post about that soon. I’m so totally addicted and obsessed with books.
I’m currently reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult (which I see a few people have already mentioned). It is awesome!
Other suggestions: my favorite books currently are the Redemption series by Karen Kingsbury. They are incredible! I love anything by Karen Kingsbury….if you are in the mood for an emotional book I suggest One Tuesday Morning…about the terrorist attacks.
I also highly suggest Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Post Partum Depression by Brooke Shields. Excellent.
She’s Come Undone by Wally Lamb
The shopaholic series by Sophie K (can’t remember her last name now)
PS I Love you
Good Grief
all excellent books.

Shannon H: Hahaha, greatest love story your mommy brain can remember - I like that.
Pam: Oh Pam, thanks for the offer, but you don’t have to do that. I think I can order directly from the Moby website - I’m gonna try that!
Shania: waiting too see what you come up with!
Ya, I suspect the ending’s going to be hard, I’m nearly there, I’ll have it done by the end of the week - so no spoilers.
mamatulip: I would trust just about anything you suggest!
Haley-O: I thought about The Other Boleyn Girl after you went on and on and on about it! *wink* It’s on the list!
Lexi: Keep thinking!! I’ve added those suggestions to my list.
Gabriella: After getting into this book, my Sister’s Keeper, I think I would read just about anything by her!
Jenn: Added the other two Jodi books you mentioned!
Brenda: oh, yes PS I Love You was one recommended by a friend (besides you!), thanks for reminding me!
All those books are added to the list, thanks Brenda!
ali: All added! Thanks Ali!
