All I want for Christmas is my Very Own Edward

by samantha on December 2, 2008

I kinda avoided my blog throughout the month of November because of NaBloPoMo since everyone and their brother seemed to be participating this year. Your feed readers were surely busy enough without me there so often, so I laid back. Chill. Not to say I took an internet break for that time because Dood! I’ve been crazy busy for the past month and skimping on many of my duties – online and elsewhere – like Uh. MY HOUSE. Because who set off a bomb in here!? A bomb filled with fuckin’ shrapnel made of kids toys, food, dust, dirt and a sprinkle of animal hair.

When I’m not busy here I’m reading the Twilight series – becoming more and more acquainted with Edward and scowling at my husband because Dammit Mike, why can’t you be more like Edward!? Poor guy has no idea why I’ve begun comparing him to a fictional vampire as of late. He thinks I’ve lost that last stitch that was keeping me sane.

My expectations have dramatically increased now, thanks to Edward. I expect unconditional love and attention ALL. THE. TIME., chivalry and relentless butterflies in my stomach.

It can’t be that hard to live up to.

I mean, Edward can do it.

Mike’s big into those Mythical-type creatures (even the occasional hobbit), so I’ve been trying to convince him that the Twilight movie would be right up his alley. What’s not to love about vampires that pretend to be human? (I may have gotten ahead of myself and thrown in a couple werewolves to entice him).

But really? Wouldn’t it be nice to have your very own Edward? Since he would do absolutely anything for me, no questions asked – because he worships the ground I walk on – this house would be spotless already. And we’d have already moved on to extracurricular activities – you know? The more important stuff: like gazing lovingly into one another’s eyes while he fought the urge to kill me.

Seriously. It makes me so hot.

Being married to a man who used to design for Vampire: The Masquerade makes this kind of stuff hard for me. He totally has stringent rules about his vampire mythos. So, when I asked him to take me to Twilight yesterday, he sighed and said, “I was afraid it would come to this”. I giggled even though I was slightly annoyed at his haughtiness.

I’ve decided to go see the movie with someone who WANTS to see it or by myself because hey…I know that Edward swoony love is only in the books and movies but I want to escape and enjoy it, dammit.

You gave me butterflies just reading about him. I’ve been secretly and unconsciously measuring my husband up against Edward – the poor guy has no idea he’ll never live up to the man my Edward is. Yes, MY Edward.

I just saw the movie last night by myself. Highly recommended to keep the crying to yourself.

And today – I bought my husband the CD. Now he can enjoy what I love b/c holy hell… the music is incredible.

I’ve given urbanvox the books (and he’s actually reading the first!) so he knows what he has to measure up to.

i would get bothered by Edward’s perfection – I’ve read all the books.

She literally writes him as the PERFECT man. looks, manners the whole nine yards, he is totally 100% devoted to her and really when you think of it, it’s sick.
Do you really want someone doting over you night and day?

I will take my husband’s imperfections any day over Edward’s perfect every thing….. grow up ladies.

Oh, and wtf! Vampires don’t sparkle!

@ Beth:

Dearest Beth,

Um. Vampires don’t sparkle? Please tell me that last time you saw one and where – he just may be *my* Edward I’ve been longing childishly for!

I’d appreciate it!

Thanks!

What’s not to love, he’s strong, smart, musical, sparkles like diamonds, and all he cares about is what’s on her mind. What woman wouldn’t want that?

And personally I think it’s great that Stephanie has changed the rules for her vampires, they’re fictional characters people, the “rules” for them aren’t real. That being said neither is perfection.

My hubby loved the movie, and is now reading my set of books, and I have to say that I think he has been comparing himself to Edward, he’s been much more attentive and romantic. Nobody is perfect, even the fictional character Edward doesn’t think of himself as perfect, only that Bella is “perfect” for him and he treats her as such. Sometimes we need a reminder of what made and keeps us in love with our spouses, and if a fictional romance can do that, then so be it.

Last time I checked it was alright to have a little fantasy fun. I’m with you Samalamadingdong.

You wish for your perfect Edward lovey!! WISH AWAY! Let’s get two and run away together! Let the rest of them stay home with their non-sparkley husbands. Grow up?! WHY!! Then you just get boring….

@Double Agent Girl…I want an Edward to run away wit too…save one for me.. LOL

If we all grow up it is boring…and what would life be without dreaming and wishing? A boring pile of dreaded life.
