There really isn’t enough coffee in the world for this week

by samantha on August 5, 2009

I’ve been without internet for the past 4 days. It literally feels like 4 weeks.

We’re in the process of moving into our new home – which unfortunately (but not really) needed all brand new appliances after we had a chance to try everything out. The dishwasher leaks all over the floor, the oven requires pliers to turn it on; even then you have to guess the temperature at which you’re cooking. So it’s really a hit and miss with that one.

fridgeThe fridge doesn’t fit. Apparently the previous owner was more than happy to open the fridge LESS THAN HALF WAY for the past ten years. I? Am not. (There is a counter perpendicular to the fridge which prevents the door from being opened in its entirety. Therefore, I had to go with french doors and a bottom mounted freezer. DAMN. I know. You feel bad, right?)

I had no idea shopping for appliances would be so exhilarating. The hunting, the comparing, the bartering? AWESOME. We were able to decrease the cost of the six appliances by $2,000 at the end of the day. Not to mention the 5 year service plan tossed in at 1/3 or the price AND a year’s worth of laundry detergent.

Yes. Laundry detergent.

For my new front end loading high efficiency machines.

No. Not The Electroluxes.

But! They are LG ones. Beautiful shiny LG.

Because Life’s Good, yanno?

*snicker*

I’ve been cleaning, moving, packing, unpacking, washing, scrubbing, vacuuming, limping and whining for the past four days.

It’s been mad fun, people. Mad fun.

We’re still preparing our old home for sale as we move into this new house. There’s TONS of painting and cosmetic fix-ups to do and I have no idea where to start. I need someone to come and organize my brain.

HALP!

I have no internet at my house for ANOTHER WEEK. I am using wifi at the local coffee shop to send off some work for clients and catch up on the mess that is my inbox. My push-a-button-four-times-to-type-one-letter proves to be quite inferior when I try to read and reply to email on that shit.

I think I’m now getting The Stink Eye from the barista telling me to buy another coffee or get the hell out.

(Are they still baristas if it’s not Starbucks? Because if not I’ll just call her My Coffee Bitch.)

((If you are My Coffee Bitch instead of a Starbucks barista, please do not take offense. You’re still JUST as important to me!))

I’ll try and check in again if I can manage to part the sea of boxes (yes, just like That Dude who parted the sea. The Red Sea? Moses? I have no idea) and can break away for a bit.

Oh, appliance porn kinda says it all. Shiny.

They used a fridge for ten years that didn’t open all of the way? People have way more patience than I ever could.

I hope you get settled in soon. I despise everything about moving.

Is it wrong to covet someone else’s appliances? Because if it’s wrong then I don’t covet yours, but if it’s okay then I totally, totally do.

I hate, hate, hate moving. Wish you all kinds of luck with getting it done quickly! Totally jealous of the new appliances! Can’t wait to see pictures of the house with all the new goods.

I found your blog via Mom 101′s blog. We went through the whole appliance buying frenzy last year when we moved…it was fun! Although I couldn’t afford the stuff I REALLY wanted, I love my new stuff. :-)

I wanted the french door one 3 years ago but they didn’t make it in a built in. It is amazing what you can buy these days for the kitchen & house.

We close on our new house tomorrow and it, too is sans appliances! I’ve been hunting for weeks and am *this* close to the french door model but it looks like there’s no room? Do you love it? My argument to the hubby was that if this is the house we’re not ever leaving, then we should at least get appliances we really love (and by we, I mean me). Good luck and send me your empty boxes – I need them!

You know you pretty much demanded that something would be wrong with your appliances and you’d have to buy new ones.

You’re like The Secret and shit.

I know the whole “move” part of the move sucks, but it sounds like a great expidition you are on, soooooo jealous of all the new appliances!!!!!!!! dont worry, it’ll all get done,,, or u will end up like me w/ some boxes STILL unpacked after 5 years!!! YIKES, you better get to work, don’t wanna be like me after all!! I kid! Really, enjoy making that house YOUR house!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know this sounds weird, but I love fresh appliances.

I feel your pain. All that shopping must have been really difficult.

12 Karen August 6, 2009 at 10:25 am

Oh how I covet the french door fridge…

Congrats again on the new digs :)

That so sounds like my first house. Built in the 70s…dated as hell. Dishwasher leaking all over the floor and louder than an oncoming train and while you didn’t need pliers to turn on the stove the temperature was off and and so you never knew what if you were cooking at 350 or 450. My husband used to accuse me of not paying attention and or not being able to cook because I’d always burn shit. After a while he figured it out.

Yep, them were the days. Thanks for taking me back :)

So glad that move is going relatively well!

I covet the french doors.

NOT envying you the moving/packing/no internet thing. But the appliances??? OMG, I’m drooling. Ugh. Now it’s back to my 20 year old fridge.

16 Azucar August 7, 2009 at 3:18 am

A.) We just moved and it was teh suck.

B.) The ‘new’ fridge is a side by side. We’ve never had a side by side. WHO in their RIGHT MIND would build a freezer that would not support frozen pizza boxes? It’s like they hate us all, and Digiorno too.

17 SoCalledSupermom August 7, 2009 at 11:27 am

Delurking to tell you how envious I am of the new fridge? Its gorgeous darling!!! And the washer/dryer……sigh…heaven!!!

18 Kat August 8, 2009 at 11:59 am

I absolutely hate moving, although I will have to do so soon. I think that new appliances would almost make me smile during the experience. There’s nothing like a little retail therapy and the joy of a new washing machine to make a girl feel better.

I’m bringing you along the next time I need to purchase big appliances!

And please tell me you did not purchase stainless steel **fingers crossed** I did that the entire time all my little ones were growing up. BIG mistake… and then when I replaced them, I did it again thinking that because they (the kids) were older (but not out on their own yet) they wouldn’t be as mess. WRONG! Never, never again. Constant smudges and finger prints and drip marks… and nobody to clean them but ME! And the cleaners never really work that well.

So please tell me you did not buy stainless steel?

20 MommyGeek August 8, 2009 at 3:08 pm

SO thrilled for you!

Now good luck getting settled!
