Alive

by samantha on March 15, 2010

I finished repainting the stripes. They look fabulous! Like, fabulously fabulous. I am so happy with the outcome. I will post some pictures when I have an opportunity to take some shots. SOON! I swear!

Last week I was practically on my death bed. Monday, my first day off in ages, I woke up with what felt like shards of glass piercing my esophagus. I thought it was due to heavy snoring since I was utterly exhausted after working a night shift.

I have snored my entire life. I can remember at the age of nine or ten my brother came into my room and elbowed me in the chest in an effort to get me shut up because he saw it on a commercial. Needless to say, it wasn’t very effective.

Also, I still have a requisition in my purse for a sleep study but I keep putting it off because IZ SKEERED.

My throat continued to burn and the pain swiftly moved from shards of glass to swallowing a butcher knife. So off I went to the walk-in clinic. Dude, those places are like, the Devil’s Playground. Go in with a sore throat, come out with SARS and H1N1 with a side of The Herp. Everyone’s coughing all over each other, the chairs, the floor. It’s like a bunch of zombies – minus the brain matter and ooze – not nearly as awesome. Clearly.

I sat in that disease infested, snot covered, germy place for 2 and a half hours only to find out I had Strep Throat.

Which I passed to my 19 month old.

How then got massive explosive diarrhea from his medication.

So, you can imagine what my week was like.

Awesome.

Awesome with a side of Awesomer, really.

But! Before I went to the walk-in clinic; while I was infectious, yes. But! I didn’t know I was infectious! I thought I just snore REALLY! REALLY! badly. I went to the organic-grocery-store-type place and bought a bunch of natural shit to make me better. Since quitting my antidepressants I decided to try some natural methods to offset and combat my depression: Vitamin-D, Vitamin-B6, Iron Supplements, and I’ve noticed a HUGE difference already. Most notably, my energy level has increased tenfold. I’ve always been low on iron; so low I am anemic when I’m pregnant. And, I’m not pregnant, and NO LONGER DRAGGING ASS LIKE I HAVEN’T SLEPT IN MONTHS.

Yes, I have to yell. This is HUGE, people.

I have energy! and motivation! again. It’s FUCKIN’ GLORIOUS!

Not only that, but today? Today was my first day of Couch to 5K. Which I’m doing with my fellow fatty (it’s okay, she let’s me call her that) Mom-O-Matic.

We’re twittering it all, which so far have been through a mass of fat-related hash tags. (My favourite so far? #escapefromtubbietown) So, if you’re curious to see how we do, we’ll be blogging and twitter, so follow us!

I ran, people. I. RAN.

It wasn’t nearly as painful as I thought it was going to be. It actually felt better to run than walk near the end.

But overall? I’m working on my happy and seeing a change.

Really? That’s what I was striving for, so YAY!

And…

Just because I am.

(Also, Eddie Vedder is a God.)

The soreness comes tomorrow, which means you should do a good walk. Then run on Wednesday.

Great song. Great album. Find yourself a good live version of Porch and your life will change. ;)

Do you know how much I love you for posting that video? Like, I’m ready to fly to Canada to hump you.

Also, what’s your vitamin cocktail? I need some pick-me-ups.

Come to Canada! Or, I suppose we can meet part way in the summer. NYC, baby!! xo

The vitamins I’m taking are Vitamin-B Stress Formula, Iron, Vitamin-D 1,000 ui.

I. Love. Pearl. Jam. Also, I rock that song on my Rock Band.

And. Good to see you kicking ass & taking names. Exercise is supposed to give you the good kind of high.

I’ve been feeling really great since I started. I sleep better too, which is a huge bonus!

Good for you for getting up and getting motivated. Bag some of that up and mail it to me, would you?

I still can’t seem to make myself run – unless I’m running toward an ice cream truck. :)

Oh the antibiotic stomach is blech. Hope he’s doing better now.

I have a question for you…not that I’m in a place yet to try to get off the anti-depressants…but someone was telling me that in addition to C, B and Iron that they take Tryptophan. I think that’s how it is spelled. That somehow it does something to the serotonin and blah, blah, I forget now. Was just curious if you’d heard of it. I think I need like another 6 months at least before i consider getting off of it, but I know I want to eventually.

11 samantha March 21, 2010 at 4:21 pm

I’ve never heard of taking Tryptophan. Isn’t that what’s in turkey and makes you sleepy!? LOL

I started singing the song as soon as I saw your blog title. ;)

Is your sleep study away some where? Chebbar’s involved bringing home a monitor and completing it in his own bed.

Also, strep is awful. I hate it. A lot. And? The vitamin D/B didn’t do a damned thing for me (except turn my pee neon yellow). ;)

xoxo

You have to stay over night for the sleep study. It’s a little room at a clinic where they stare at you while you sleep. Skeeves me out.

Vitamin B is awesome for mood. You know where you can get vitamin b? In beer. I know, right? Just when you thought beer couldn’t get any better.

15 samantha March 21, 2010 at 4:22 pm

Mmmmm beer. LOL

How awesome for you! I want to know more about these supplements giving you energy. Are the ones you listed the only ones you are taking? How long did it take to feel the effects?

Congrats to you!!!!

17 samantha March 21, 2010 at 4:24 pm

Ya, these are the only ones I’m currently taking. I’ve thought about including Vitamin-C because it’s supposed to help with the absorption of iron.

I stopped my anti-depressants about 2 months prior to starting vitamins too. I don’t know if that matters at all. :)

I am now paranoid about my throat… hmmmm….

(No argument on Vedder’s godliness… counting the days until the show in Buffalo.)

19 samantha March 21, 2010 at 4:24 pm

They were announcing the show at HSBC here in Toronto since it’s so close. I want to go!! LOL

20 kristi March 20, 2010 at 7:01 pm

Oh man, That sucks!! Hope you feel better soon.

21 Crystal March 20, 2010 at 10:05 pm

I did the C25k last year, and haven’t stopped running since, which is something that I never would have imagined happening a year ago. I actually did a 5k today as a matter of fact, and I’m training for a half-marathon in December.

Good luck!

22 samantha March 21, 2010 at 4:26 pm

That’s what I’m looking for. I want this to be a long term regular thing. I am really enjoying it now, already. I hope that sticks.
